Our Footprint below- An exhibition at the Maritime Museum

from 01/10/2008 until 04/01/2009.

Our Footprint Below

Dates: from 1st October 2008 to: 4th January 2009
Location: Special Exhibitions

Our Footprint Below is a beautiful and revealing new photographic exhibition, created by students on the BA (Hons) Marine and Natural History Photography course at University College Falmouth, which celebrates the riches of Falmouth's marine environment.

Falmouth has many different identities, from its yachts and golden sands to its industrial docks, boatyards and mussel beds. This exhibition gives a flavour of what lies beneath the pontoons and frapping halyards of Falmouth's waterline.

Milly Newman, Exhibitions Development Officer, says: "Our Under the Sea exhibition explores man's exploits under the waves and this temporary exhibition explores this theme from a local perspective - showcasing the incredible sights underneath Falmouth's waters."

"We have always worked closely with University College Falmouth and we are delighted to be able to donate a £100 prize for the best photograph, knowing that it will go some way in helping students fulfil their ambition to become top underwater photographers."

Dave Matthews, course leader on BA (Hons) Marine & Natural History Photography at University College Falmouth, says: "Falmouth has to be one of the most exciting and perfect places for natural history photography and the images secured by this years intake certainly proves this to be the case. Students on this three-year course can explore and capture images of the microscopic world of the diatom or at the other extreme, photograph some of the planet's biggest creatures - all here in Cornwall, which boasts one of the richest and most diverse environments in the UK."

The outstanding images from the underwater photography group feature within the new show, including the winner and two runners up from this year's intake, who will be chosen once the exhibition is on display.

Our Footprint Below runs from 1 October to 4 January and is featured in the Special Exhibitions gallery.
