Summer Nights, Theatrical Delights!
from 10/07/2008 until 13/08/2008.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are playing host to four fantastic outdoor theatre performances this summer. Set against the stunning backdrop of ancient rhododendrons, the audience is invited to bring a picnic, share a glass of wine and sit back to enjoy the show!
On Thursday 24th July Theatreworks lead the summer theatre season with Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" following the story of a maiden who falls victim to male lust and social hypocrisy. Pure melodrama at its best, this classic lends itself beautifully to open-air performance and superbly professional Theatreworks are once again set to enrapture audiences with their evocative scene setting, beautiful costumes and outstanding performances.
True West, a new professional Cornish theatre company makes its debut appearance at Heligan on Tuesday 29th July performing "Pitchside". A highly enjoyable comedy for adults and children over eight, about a girl's football team on the edge of relegation - and the parents who will stop at nothing to prevent it! Written by Nick Whitby of Channel 4's "Smack the Pony", and directed by Nathan Curry of award-winning physical theatre company Tangled Feet.
On Wednesday 30th July the ever-popular Miracle Theatre returns to Flora's Green to stage "Jason". This new summer production will take you into the lands of Greek legend and romance where nothing can stop Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece - not even a dodgy oracle. It takes more than a bad weather forecast, threats from dysfunctional gods or sirens with halitosis to put off the Argonauts. Miracle plunders the riches of Greek mythology - with tragic consequences!
Wednesday 13th August marks the return of Theatre Set-Up to Heligan, with Shakespeare's "All's Well that Ends Well" finishing off the summer theatre season. This magical story tells how Helena, daughter of a Renaissance healer, inherits the prescriptions for his remedies, cures the ill King when doctors have failed and as a reward is given in marriage to Bertram, the man she loves. However, Bertram resents this marriage forced upon him by the King and it takes all of Helena's devotion and skill to ultimately win his love.
